Ways to Help with Skin Conditions During Pregnancy

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are completely normal with the body changing and stretching.

You can help improve the appearance of stretch marks is to stay hydrated, exercise and gently massage the areas of concern. These things will not stop stretch marks but may help with preventing them or not making them as prominent. We recommend our Coconut Oil or Brilliant Balm for massage which are both safe to use in pregnancy.

Pigmentation / Melasma

Pigmentation should fade after pregnancy. Something to note is that it is important to wear SPF daily and on sunnier days wear a cap for extra protection. This can help avoid or reduce the appearance of pigmentation. You can also use liquid exfoliants which can help with fading pigmentation and the overall complexion. It is important to look for brands which are safe to use in pregnancy, like the Lucy Bee range which includes an SPF and a liquid exfoliant.

Acne and Breakouts

Acne is a very complex topic and if you are suffering from acne we always recommend talking to a dermatologist or doctor about it to get the right treatment for you if you are struggling with it.

It is important to cleanse and clean your face morning and night, clean pillowcases regularly, and to try not to touch your skin or squeeze spots as this can cause extra bacteria. Use natural, effective products, use hydrating, nourishing products which support the skin barrier and don’t be scared of using products that contain oil as the skin barrier needs this. We recommend the Reviving Cleansing Cream, AHA & PHA Tonic, Radiance-Boosting Face Cream, Hydrating Face Wash and SPF 30.

Dry and Itchy Skin

This is due to hormones and skin stretching. Keeping the area nourished and hydrated will help combat itchiness. We recommend our Coconut Oil or Brilliant Balm for this as both will deeply hydrate, nourish and lock in moisture.

Eczema

We always recommend talking to a dermatologist or doctor about it to get the right treatment for you if you are struggling with it. We also recommend using fragrance-free, natural, organic products which are hydrating, soothing and nourishing on the skin. From the Lucy Bee range the majority are dermatologically approved for sensitive skin and fragrance free, we’d recommend our Reviving Cleansing Cream, Radiance-Boosting Face Cream, Brilliant Balm and Vitamin A (alternative) Eye serum to help with eczema.
